Commenting Policy

Here are a few general rules to keep in mind before you join the discussion. Remember that I can amend this section at any time and with any reason I feel necessary. You can cry foul all you want but remember – this is my website and I get to make the rules as to how it’s run since I create the content, pay the hosting bill and the domain names. Do not like it? Well, these are my house rules and I will change and enforce them as I see fit.

What IS okay

  1. Intelligent Debate I appreciate commentators that think with their head, rather than use it to crunch beer cans, and I enjoy discourse with these people. This is not a way for me to say that I only want to debate with people I like or agree with my point of view. In fact, I want more people who have a differing point of view and some points to make to comment on my blog as much as they wish, provided they follow the rest of the rules.
  2. Pointing out errors in the content If I made a mistake in things I have written, I genuinely wish to know about it so I can correct it. I won’t erase the information but I will insert an update.

What’s NOT okay

  1. The 281 Tricks to Irritate an Atheist I want to let you know that while anything on the 281 tricks to irritate an atheist list will not get your comment deleted. If you are not going to give me a serious discussion, you are not going to get a serious response.
  2. Personal Attacks on Me, My Wife or Other Commenters. What that basically means is don’t post anything obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit, illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, humiliating, defamatory, libelous, invasive of someone else’s privacy, or objectionable. Be respectful of other people’s opinions and we can all get along.
  3. Off-Topic Comments or Spam. Please keep your comments on-topic. If you feel the need to tell me something that doesn’t have to do with the article in front of you, please e-mail me. It’ll save me a lot of trouble of having to go into WordPress’ admin panel and deleting your comment. That’s not really a good way do develop rapport
    • As an aside, please don’t use the comments section to tell me that I am going to Hell. There’s a handy contact form if you really must tell me that. Feel free to use it. I will probably delete your email pretty quickly, but you can send it if you want.
  4. Anonymous comments are not allowed. If you have an opinion and you wish to share it, please at least give me a real e-mail address. You can use initials if you prefer but if I do not see a valid e-mail address, I will nuke your comment.

A few additional points

  • I reserve the right to re-publish comments and emails that are especially idiotic. – How do you think I get such great content for my hate mail section? ^_^
  • I manually moderate all comments. This is simply a way for me to avoid spam on my site and helps if anythings gets past the spam filters. If this is your first time commenting, please be assured that as long as your comment is in line with this policy, I will approve it as soon as I can. If your comment does not show up immediately, please wait. There is no need to post multiple times. Chances are if it is acceptable, it will be approved within 48 hours.
  • I reserve the right to write posts that do not have the option for commenting, or close the commenting on a specific post. – I generally do not and so far have not, but I reserve the right to do so at any time.
  • I will never abuse my privilege as site owner to only approve comments which agree with my point of view – I CAN abuse this privilege because comments don’t show until I have went through the process of approving them. However, I generally do not because it makes people less willing to actually comment and debate on my website and the things I write. If you need proof of this, you can check out this post or this post.

I do hope that my readers will follow this policy and that this will help to make The Adventures of Jessica Sideways a more readable and enjoyable site. I will do my best to try to be consistent with the enforcement of this policy. I am sure I am forgetting something. Just don’t be a jerk and we will probably be okay. Okay?

The latest the blog has to offer, in all it's textual glory!
