My review of Pepsi Throwback

General

If you want to get soda without High Fructose Corn Syrup (abbreviated HFCS out of sympathy to my poor little hands ;-P), sadly, before the release of Pepsi Throwback, you had to purchase imported soda from Mexico or wait for Passover to find “Jewish Pepsi”. Generally, the only kind they had in my local grocery store was Mexican coke and I’m not a really big coke fan. But a few days ago, I found out something interesting. Turns out I wanted a pepsi on my way to school one day so I walked into King Soopers, picked out the bottle thinking that it was just another pepsi, paid and walked out the door. As I was waiting at the bus stop, I started to drink my pepsi and it tasted funny – not bad, in fact, really, really good. I took a look at the bottle and I found out that I was drinking a Pepsi Throwback and really didn’t notice it. Since that day, I’ve been trying to find another one in my hometown of Boulder and it turns out that King Soopers is usually always out of them. Not exactly the kind of post you expect to find on this blog but it is an aside. If you see me in a Jewish market around Passover, I’m certain you can guess as to why. ;-P

I have bought as much Pepsi Throwback as I could carry during both of the limited-time releases (2009 and 2010). I absolutely love this stuff, and it is the only caloric soda I will drink. It reminds me fondly of the Pepsi we had in the 1970s. For the 2010 run, they used the old, 1970s-style logo which was really cool to see. I can only hope that Pepsi will decide to make this an on-going product. For an extra treat, put 2 ounces of cherry or chocolate syrup (or both) into 12 ounces of Pepsi Throwback, and it makes an excellent drink compliment to a good Cuban cigar.
