While Dignity USA, a curiously named group of LGBT Catholics, has no actual support from the Vatican or the official Catholic enterprise (d/b/a Jesus, Inc.), they are helping the church to oppress gay people simply through the idea that it’s okay to be Catholic. And no, Catholics don’t want to oppress gay people – they want to oppress all people to the point that they want to receive a tithe from every breathing person on the face of the earth. The Catholics, like all Christians, see rational thinking as the anti-Christ and work to vilify it as much as possible, which makes me feel very sad for these LGBT Catholics who just cannot leverage one of the greatest benefits of being queer, vilification from religious people and the subsequent freedom from their religious bullshit. They should free themselves from the Catholic machine as well because tithes could be better spent giving to organizations that support our rights rather than try to oppress them, or some really trippy furniture from IKEA. Anything but giving it to a group of hate mongers that would actually threaten to deny services to the homeless if there was even a hint of allowing marriage equality in Washington, DC.
