Seth Macfarlane Went Too Far This Time!

Today I was catching up on my Twitter and I learned that Seth Macfarlane, the talentless hack that created such ignorant depraved trash like Family Guy and American Dad has went too far with his latest mind numbing, brains free television show, the Cleveland Show. What happened is he basically showed his brain dead viewers that it is okay to think of transsexual women as men if they are pre-op. And of course, he decided to showcase his transphobic and homophobic values around the same time as the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day that is designated for mourning the transwomen that were victims of violence for having the courage to be who they truly are. And Seth Macfarlane could find no better time to display his rampant transphobia/homophobia than around this time, which is basically like standing up, saying the worst, most racist, sexist, ableist things about a person during their funeral. It is as jarring as the Westboro Baptist Church picketing the funerals of dead soldiers and gay people because of the fact that they were soldiers or gay and just as offensive. Since I do not watch any of Seth Macfarlane’s television programmes, I could not tell you from first hand knowledge what this bastard did but the author over at Womanist Musings explained it very well…

At first it seemed that he was taking a page out of Tyler Perry’s play book. The character Auntie Mama, is quite reminiscent of Madea. She is loud, abrasive and quite foul, taking pleasure in screaming outrageous as she farts loudly. Of course, Auntie Mama is revered by her family. It seems that despite his Whiteness, MacFarlane believes he knows the characteristics of the Black family.

Then the shift occurs, Cleveland discovers that Auntie Mama has a penis and immediately declares her a man. Auntie Mama clearly presents as a woman and lives her life as such and therefore; declaring her a man is highly transphobic. Rather than just admitting that trans people make the decisions that they do because their bodies are not aligned with their gender, Auntie Mama claims to have made the decision to live as woman after the death of Donna’s mother to give her feminine role models.

Cleveland then decides to corner Auntie Momma and demand that she declare that she is a man. Immediately Auntie Momma’s voice deepens and the rest of the episode is spent making jokes about her gender presentation. It was written as though she was deceiving those around her. This meme is particularly dangerous. The deceptive trans woman construction has lead repeatedly to murder and yet MacFarlane decided that this was just pure humour.

Of course, the deceptive trans woman then goes on to seduce a straight cisgender male. When Auntie Momma is outed by Cleveland, his father proceeds to vomit copiously and expresses shame for having in engaged in sex with Auntie Momma. It is absolutely not Cleveland’s place to out someone? In the real world, such an action often ends in violence. Why is it necessarily shameful that a cisgender man engaged in sex with a trans woman? The response of Cleveland’s father is based squarely in the trans panic and homophobia. Isn’t MacFarlane great; two marginalizations for the price of one.

We are getting a bit of headway since there is important hate crimes legislation heading towards the President’s desk and that would help to protect transwomen from getting murdered each and every year. The first case to ever try the murder of a transwoman as a hate crime was successful here in Colorado, one of a handful of states that has hate crime legislation. However, this headway is chipped a bit every time some asshole like Seth Macfarlane tells people that it is okay to see transsexual women as men, despite how they live their lives and who they are on the inside. I am a transsexual woman but more to the point, I am a woman plain and simple. I do not consider myself a man in the least bit and I feel as though I have always been a woman, although it did take me a little while to fully realize it and to be able to do something about it. And yet, the ever ignorant Seth decides to blast transsexual women down a peg because of his obvious transphobia.

Seth Macfarlane is not even creative enough to justify this with creative license, since he is not a creative person at all. He is a talentless hack and this is evidenced through his other shows, the biggest example that comes to mind is Family Guy. It has 3 minute jokes that are too long, too drawn out and are really, fucking boring. His show Family Guy has no real storyline and is, in my opinion, one of the worst pieces of crap that they have ever put on the air. This is not said just from my moral objection to his transphobia and homophobia but also due to the fact that I have been saying this before I even knew that this was going on. I do not watch his other television shows and now I feel even more justified in not watching them since they have taken this turn for the worse.
