Once again, I am among the ranks of the unemployed. Unfortunately, even though I was meeting the quotas set by Comcast and I was doing everything they told me to do, since I wasn’t do as well as the other people on the shift, I was let go. This is completely horrible, as they told me that as long as I do 200 tapes per shift, I would not have any problems. And even though I met this requirement, actually exceeding it last night, I was terminated today when I got to the building. Now, considering how much trouble it takes to get to the Comcast Media Centre, I was pissed that I had walked all that way so I could be told that I was essentially shit canned. Not only this, but I also e-mailed Dr. Pichet and told him that I was going to have a deposit ready for him by the end of the month. Now, since I am once again employed and I doubt I will even have the 10% deposit that he needs to lock in the price, I am once again back to square one.
Calculating how much I am probably going to have to put forward for the surgery deposit is quite simple. I worked 16 hours last week and 16 hours this week at $11 per hour. That’s about $352 before taxes are taken out. And about $282 after taxes, assuming 20% taxes. So, in order to pay the deposit to Dr. Pichet, I will need to raise about $368, as well as the cost of the wire transfer fee (which is usually around $45 from my experience). Also, given the cost of the surgery ($6,500), this means that I have about $6,218 before I can finally afford the surgery, not including the airfare (the airfare is going to be around $1,500, unless I can find some sort of way to get it deeply discounted).
