Interested in changing your name? Better get a second court order!

After talking with my old high school, it turns out that they refuse to change my name on my records and to issue a new birth certificate. Their rationale is that I do not have a court order which specifically requires the Klein Independent School District to update their records, so they feel that they don’t have to recognize the court order. What assholes! So, what needs to happen now is a court order which will specifically ORDER Klein ISD to change their records to reflect the new name change. But of course, if someone who was lucky enough to get married and have the Klein ISD change their name on their records to their married name, this could help my case dramatically! But sadly, I doubt that I would find someone who even went to a Klein ISD high school who lives here in Colorado. So, what has to happen now is I have to specifically draft a legal petition which will require the Klein Independent School District to legally change my name on their records and to issue a new diploma in the correct name. I am also going to try to have the Colorado court that I petition try to change my gender markers on their records as well. It’s such a good thing that I didn’t take any for-credit courses that were male-specific, like football or physical education!

In fact, my high school courses alone should be proof that I was not as masculine as people would think I was. Do I need to elabourate? Well, here are a few examples of coursework that I took during my years of high school:

  • Floral Design - I personally think I made one of the prettiest prom mums in the class. ^_^
  • Nutrition and Food Science - A class that helped me to learn how to cook better.
  • Home Economics - I got a small amount of experience with cooking, laundry, sewing (most of which, I already forgot) and managing a chequing account.
  • Internetworking - In and of itself, this wasn’t such a girly class because of the fact that it had to deal with computers and despite the butch looking girl that was in there, I was the only girl in the classroom. But it counted as my required Physical Education credit and I am happy about that!
  • Communication Applications - No, this was not a computer course but it was a course on how to interact with others. Yeah, I didn’t get much benefit out of it.

So, I must say that the Klein ISD knew that this was eventually going to happen. They have the responsibility to change these records and I really should not have to go to court to get this done. But sadly, it looks like I will have to in order to keep myself from being “outed” every time I apply for work or something like that. I guess I would need to find a process server who could serve Klein ISD with the appropriate documents and also include a clause in the order which requires the Klein ISD to pay an additional $100 per day that the records are not corrected, in addition to the court costs. Hey, they could have gotten this done for free but they chose to be buttholes about it and this means war.

Try houstonclassmates.com to try to find others from Klein ISD that may have had records changed. Then again, this might cause more problems than a solution. Sorry , you’re having to deal with such bullshit. You might be able to find someone from a neighboring district who might provide the precendent you’re looking for (Spring, Cy-Fair, Conroe).

I hope you make Klein ISD realize next time they should take the easier road.
