When I was checking out my feed reader today, I learned that a 9-year-old transgendered girl is coming out as who she really is, with the help of school administration. When I first started reading this post, I thought “wow, maybe just maybe the world is becoming easier for people to transition in”. But then, I started to read through the post and I found the part and parcel bigotry and hate that comes from the small-minded parents of children going to the same elementary school.
Parents of a third-grade student at Chatham Park Elementary School approached the administration on April 16 to ask for help in making a “social transition” for their child.
The Haverford School District consulted experts on transgender children, then sent letters to parents advising them that the guidance counselor would meet with the school’s 100 third-grade students to explain why their classmate would now wear girls’ clothes and be called by a girl’s name.
Well you know what? If someone is trying so hard to transition from male to female, here’s a thought: WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF YOURS? You should try to support people instead of your own small minded bigotry and hate. It is no doubt that these are Christians of the fundamentalcase variety.
First off, anything that both the right wing and the white supremacists oppose is something worth fighting to protect. And even though I recommend knowing what the other side thinks, because it is much easier to fight them that way, it’s hard for me to sift through all this and not feel the bile rise up my throat. These people make me think “damn, why is it that there are so many intolerant assholes in this country, scratch that, this world”.
And there are people that want to ask “what will the child do about Physical Education?” I do have a few answers - namely providing off-campus (or homeschooled) Physical Education credits. I know it is possible in Texas because my parents have looked into this opportunity when I was just a weird kid at PE. But there are sometimes courses that the high school offers to other students that can be taken for Physical Education courses. My high school PE requirements were met by an Internetworking class (not kidding!) and I am grateful that I was permitted to do this.
Finally, I have to say that despite all the hate and bigotry, I am proud of how the school administrators are handling this. My applause goes to them and I cannot express how thankful I am that they are doing the right thing for this child. I can only hope that this child will be able to start hormone therapy before her evil male puberty has a chance to begin.
