I signed the book!

Today started off in a very interesting manner. For a few Sundays now, I have been going to this church called “Faith Ministries” a/k/a “Faith Bible Chapel West” here in Denver. I have agreed to go in a hopeful effort to try to shut some of the theists that regularly annoy the shit out of me up. Anyways, the church offers a breakfast to anyone who attends so while I was eating my breakfast, the minister told me that I am a “unapologetic atheist” (of course, on this point, he is right - which is a rarity for him) and I will never ever be saved. With that, he also told me to leave the church and never come back. Since this guy was a hypocrite and a liar, I would be more than happy to leave rather than hear this asshole preach. So, I took my breakfast and headed towards the bus stop on Colfax, heading towards First Unitarian.

I met up with a couple of good friends that I had met last Sunday, Maja and Justine. At first, I didn’t know whether they would be there because I saw that Justine had left her visitor name tag at the Welcome desk when I walked in. I also saw my own visitor name tag, so I scooped that up quite quickly. But, I later saw her with her MEMBER name tag, I was wondering “how could she possibly have gotten this? She hasn’t taken Pathways to Membership, so how could she have signed the book?”. True, Maja was her hetero life mate and he was a member, but she wasn’t. Turns out she signed the membership book THAT DAY.

Anyways, the service today was beautiful. They had something called a “flower communion” in which, all the people bring a flower and everyone walks away with a different flower. So basically, it’s like someone giving you a flower. It was inspired by a Unitarian (I think!) minister in Czechoslovakia in order to cheer up the people in his congregation. Also, they spoke about faith and politics and what a UUs stand on political issues would be if they were running for president.

After the second service, Dee had announced that there was a “Finding Yourself at First Unitarian” class and that people would learn about things such as signing the book. I thought “cool” and I asked aloud “Can I sign the book?” She agreed, we went into her office and I became an official member of First Unitarian Denver today. Woo hoo!
