Why Christians Should Worry About Who is on the Inside, Fucking Up their Religion

General

As an ex-believer and a transsexual, I have my own personal experiences about this but I will try to write as honestly and openly as possible. Some people think that the Christian faith is being hurt exclusively by non believers but this isn’t so, simply because of the fact that we have to look at the bigger picture. They are so mobilized and so political in the fight against equal rights that they fail to see the bigger picture that is right in front of them but they choose not to see. The bigger picture is that the Christian faith is loaded with hypocrites, liars, manipulators, shysters and con men and women and people in the faith are, at the very least, getting tired and frustrated at this. And this creates a lot of stress in the churches, congregations and communities surrounding them that these people want to think about something else, not having to look at what the pastor is doing to a parishoner behind the closed doors of his office.

This is a hard post to write, because I imagine the people that stand along the 16th street mall, handing out tracts telling me how I am going to go to hell or the evil monsters that were protesting against homosexuality during the DNC here in Denver, but I will try. The fact of the matter is that your church is being told to discriminate and encourage discrimination of people just because of the way they are born. They try to tell you that gay people are not born gay but instead, choose it of their own free will, but this is obviously wrong. This is wrong because of the fact that no one chooses to be discriminated against, be the victim of violence, be in relationships that cannot lead to lawful marriage due to the discrimination of others and become the subject of scorn from society in general. If you are a Christian and you are reading this, than know that it is YOUR fault – assuming that your church does not accept gay people with respect and dignity, does not act in social justice matters, lobbies against equality and/or shuns gay or transgender parishioners. To allow this and to continue to support this church with your tithe is a despicable act and is the main reason why I find so much personal distaste for Christians. Some Christians, like my Uncle (who is an Episcopalian), are very cool with equality for gay/trans people and even work to try to set things right. And some are absolutely 100% hostile, like all of the members of my immediate family.

You take this so far, that you forget the primary message to love one another and to work to represent Christ accurately in this world. Do you really think this is what you are doing, or are you turning people away from your church because of your own bigoted actions? And it’s not just gay people as well, but the straight people who truly care from them as friends or family and see that the church is the primary enemy of their loved ones. And is this the image that you want people to think of, when they think of the Christian church? You seriously need to take your religion back from those who have hijacked it and clean house, becoming more active in the fight for human rights, rather than the fight against human rights. I know it’s possible since so many Christian denominations have worked to help make their denomination less hostile towards gay people. Unless of course, it was meant to be a discriminatory hateful force in the fight against equal rights – than I can totally understand why it is that you wouldn’t want anything to change in your church.

The thing that I have to say to Christians is that if you are sincere about your desire to help the world, than why is it that you are allowing these far right-wing political influences blind you to the truth of the message of your god? Why do you constantly allow preachers to stand up in your church and spout off about how homosexuals and transsexuals are evil, horrible sinners and that granting us equal rights is wrong. Why do you allow your tithe to be donated to causes which are against equality, and yet, Jesus told you to love one another? You are responsible for the downfall of your religion simply because you refuse to keep it’s precepts. You are making the burden on people in the church unnecessarily heavy and make it painful for them to continue on in their worship and service. And a CRITIC of your religion, a woman who is so disillusioned from your religion, having spent many years in the church has to tell you this, when it is in front of your face?

Hey, my name is Hailey Smith and I am personally a Christian who is also lesbian. I know and share your feelings of the Christians who claim to follow the bible but then judge like it is no body’s business, or rather as though it is everyones. I am just telling you that I am here for you and I support you.

  2. A Christian that is also a lesbian? I could understand the heteronormative gay man being a Christian while ignoring the homophobia in the Bible but a lesbian not only has to ignore the homophobia in the Bible but also the misogyny in the Bible. But, that’s Christianity for you – you ignore everything you can just so you can be like all the straights, despite the human cost of what you support. I am sorry but that is something I cannot applaud, and hypocrisy never has been.

I would highly recommend you throw away all this Christ nonsense and grow up. The gay rights and women’s rights movements will be glad to have you back!
