I was reading the book, the Cult of Mac and I came across the chapter that talked about Apple’s Chief Evangelist and about the mailing list known as the Evangelist. The purpose of this list was to publicize articles which talked negatively about Apple’s products and to help get people who were dedicated to the gospel of Mac to get an author to rethink her/his statement. Well, I just thought “well, why would anyone bash Apple, they have some pretty good products”? Well, apparently, I have a couple of opinions about some Apple products where I think that Apple could have seriously done better. The first is about Apple’s web service MobileMe and when I posted about it, it happened to become instantly popular - having received about 500 hits since the day it was posted. This last weekend, my hits went from about 30-100 to numbers like 353 and 459 hits, pushing that post to be even more popular than the front page of my website. That post has the most comments of any posts, with most of them (very respectfully, I might add) disagreeing with me. And I have to wonder, is this the pull that Apple has over the world? Yesterday, when I was looking up information on the new laws and the court decisions about our new equal marriage rights in Connecticut, I stumbled upon information about an anti-gay, anti-trans group called MassResistance. And much like any other hate-based group, they are completely and totally antagonistic to the idea that two people could genuinely love one another regardless of gender or sex. That physical sex does not determine gender also irks them and all the women that go through the gauntlet of transition are considered perverts by these people, regardless of how good of people these are and the fact that they are not the one focusing on other people’s genitals (I swear, sometimes I wonder where people get the idea that they can ask me probing, intimate questions about my genitals). And these people decided to get together after the Massachusetts court decision that legalized equal marriage. Despite the fact that they are quickly losing the battle against equal marriage, these people persist to try to disseminate lies about the gay and transsexual communities. Just when you think people couldn’t get any lower, you hear about stories like this. A man decided to name his daughter “Sarah McCain Palin” against his wife’s objections, just to support a misogynistic ticket. And the father was quoted as saying “I took one for the cause”. ‘Scuse me but taking advantage of your wife’s state when she is knocked out from the pain and horrible experience to stick a name onto your daughter so that you could advance this ticket is not “taking one for the cause”. You violated the trust of your wife and you have permanently scarred your daughter for the rest of her life, as she would have proof that you regarded her life with absolutely no respect or dignity at all. You showed your contempt for your wife’s right to work with you to pick out a name that is appropriate for your daughter. You sir, are a fine example of a Republican - refusing to recognize the sacrifice that women have to make during pregnancy and using it to further your own agenda. You are a consummate opportunist and a thief of your child’s innocence. You are a true example of what a Republican is but that also shows your selfish ideology and your desire to hurt those who cannot defend themselves to advance the success of the rich. About a week ago, my sister phone me a few times and then hung up right when I picked up the phone. I did finally reach her and I asked her what’s up and then she decided to call me by that old male name. Anyone in this situation knows what happened next - click. My sister broke the first rule of respecting trans people and that is not to use the old name of the person, no matter where they are in transition. Seriously, this is not permissible in any situation and any transwoman or transman that tolerates this is being a lot more gracious and wonderful to you than I would be. And from many of the reactions I’ve gotten and agreements about this, I would have to say that I am not alone in this position, that a lot of transwomen are in agreement with me about this. To be honest, I have been trying to post every day, at least one post every day, and considering some of the things I have been coming up with recently - I have been doing a pretty piss-poor job of actually getting any quality content out. Therefore, I have ultimately decided that I am going to work on this blog when I damn well feel like it, write drafts out in my head and on paper before even taking them to the keyboard and prepare to start writing cohesive and wonderful content that provides a value to you. Why I haven’t been doing that is beyond me, but the point of this website is to share my experiences and my life so you won’t make the same mistakes, er, I mean so you can learn how to manage your transition in a way that makes sense for you. This will result, ultimately, in higher quality posts, posts that have been researched more thoroughly and with a better and more relaxed manner. They will read in a more orderly fashion and they will not seem overly rushed or completely fumbled. I write because I love to write and part of being a writer and a publisher means being able to also be an editor, since what I will publish will ultimately go out into the world permanently. I cannot undo any post that I make - so I will do my best to post quality content that people can get real value out of. So, don’t expect content every day - but subscribe to the RSS feed and you will start seeing content that is worth your time and worth your read.
Namaste,
Jessica
Today, I received an e-mail from Lambda Legal announcing loudly and proudly that we have finally gained equal marriage rights in Connecticut! With this victory, we now have 3 states in the United States have fully equal marriage. The high court has ruled that it is unconstitutional to deny equal marriage rights to lesbian and gay couples, and I have to resound with the obvious claim: damn right! (Yeah, I know this was a short post, but I will say more tomorrow)
I complain to RTD when I feel that a complaint needs to be made about a driver and their conduct or the latency of what is happening on the bus. About a third of the time I phone RTD, I have to make a complaint because either (1) the bus was late as hell or (2) the driver was acting in a very uncouth or unprofessional manner. Sometimes, I do have a compliment about a couple of drivers, like what happened yesterday on the B to Boulder, I got a really good driver and I believe that she deserves a commendation. However, for the most part, RTD drivers and especially the drivers that are really pissy or in a mood are the ones that I write notes about and then fill out comment cards on or phone RTD about as soon as possible. Sometimes I get a response, sometimes I don’t and sometimes, I get a response that is truly and honestly delayed. Below, I got an e-mail reply to two of the comment cards that I sent out about a couple of RTD drivers and their conduct. Continue reading ‘RTD Responds to Jessica Sideways’ Complaints!’
Writer’s Block Sucks
I know I have not been posting recently, but I have to honestly say that I have been suffering from a serious case of writer’s block. A lot has been happening in my personal life, a new relationship, had to move and running all around the Denver-Boulder corridor. So, right now the inspiration well is totally dried up and I am not sure what to do to get a new post out that you’ll actually read. I am certain that after this weekend and the maelstrom of Election Day, I will have at least something to write about. But, right now, I guess I have a lot going on in my life and I haven’t had the time or the luxury to sit back and really think to myself about what the topic of my next post is going to be. I will try to start responding to comments while I cannot write an actual post - but right now - I am totally dried up.
