I have received a comment praising me for being so open and for public consumption, I will make my response here and now - I am not afraid nor ashamed of who I am. My being open and public with who I am is a part of my activism, to show that being gay and being trans is not such a bad thing really. I have come to the point where I have recognized that I there is nothing necessarily wrong with being transsexual and I should have to feel ashamed to be who I am. So, in that spirit and with that experience, I have decided to permanently link myself to transsexuality and homosexuality through the means of the Internet. In other words, the more I am out, the more I am mentioned in certain channels and the less control I have over “going stealth”, a fate that I don’t feel appropriate for any human being. I will explain my reasoning for this further into the article, but now, I will discuss some of the things that I hope to accomplish using this site and my presence on the Internet. Okay, you really did it this time - you went and co-opted one of the most stupid television ad campaigns in existence and used it to ask voters to vote no on prop 8. Please tell me that you did not use the same idea as Apple and compare the two when the reality is that the bigots don’t see what they think or say or do as bigotry? Religion is one of the great dividers of humanity as it makes the “saved” have the odd notion that they are somehow better or more valuable than the “unsaved”, or those of us who use rational thought rather than bronze age superstition. These people believe in bronze age myth and superstition rather than rational science and living your life honestly, because your religion does not codify it in their laws. Proposition 8 failed because we have people in this society who think with their bible and not with their brain. And this is the reason why prejudice against people is still going on in this society, because people cannot or will not think for themselves but instead use the bible or the pulpit to think for them. Christian borgs have taken over our country are are trying to take away many of the protections and rights that should be granted to us as tax paying citizens of this country. There are several reasons why I am so glad that I moved to Colorado, the first of which being the fact that it actually snows here in Colorado. That, and the ever-present view of the Rockies - as well as the opportunity to view absolutely magnificent landscapes just by coming home from Boulder (the GS bus happens to be “the scenic route” for me). I absolutely love white winter solstices and I love how cute and cuddly other women look in sweaters and winter clothing. And seeing as this is the first winter that I will have spent full-time as Jessica, this makes it even more magical and special. So, yes, you’d be hard pressed to find me saying an ill word against Colorado during winter. Even though I am now a canvasser for a Rape Crisis Centre here in Denver and I have to walk in the stuff. “I’ll get the door”, I shouted up to Meredith when I heard them knocking on the door. It was a little too late as she started to come down and told me that we had visitors of the evil kind, missionaries from the Moron church just down the street. I decided that it would be my opportunity to mess with these people’s heads and to earn this house the status of one that the Morons would not visit again, ever. I told them that I don’t see that if their god believed transsexuality and homosexuality were so bad, that so many people are gay/trans and they can live happy lives as who they are, as long as they don’t try to deny it and make themselves neurotic. I also talked on an instance when one of the Moron prophets tried to talk someone out of transition and they were completely unaffected by it. They continued to try to conflate homosexuality with lying and stealing, which I tried to correct them on - as homosexuality does not hurt anyone. Appearantly, I need to re-read Betty Berzon’s Setting them Straight so I can get better at confronting these assholes with the latent homophobia. But I have a fortnight to do it in. ^_^ Continue reading ‘Visitors from the LDS Church!’
When I woke up and went to my computer, I received the bad news from my Aunt Lori who is living in between California and Virginia. California’s anti-marriage equality bill, proposition 8, won in the polls by a slim margin and equal marriage in California has been successfully compromised. Now, the California constitution is amended so that marriage equality is denied to couples of the same sex. The sad fact of the matter is that we need to get California on board because it has historically been the state that helps other states garner equality in their laws and thus, would have helped us obtain equal marriage. I have decided to wear black all day to show distress about the new inequality amendments in California and I am also planning to do something about it. I am going to dedicate more of my time to being an activist in the LGBT community and work with fellow Coloradans to help battle homophobia and transphobia. I found an interesting link the other day about Christianity and how it is still supposedly becoming Christless. Well, I don’t know about you, but I’d have to say that it’s like saying Harry Potter books are becoming Harry Potter-less. You can’t take Christ out of Christianity just like you can’t take the protagonist out of any other work of fiction - it just ruins it and works against the organization. And here, we have people who actually believe in this shit, that this shit actually happened and that Christianity is absolutely diabolical. But there is this one guy writing a book on Christless Christianity so I am going to have to throw my two cents about “Christless Christianity” and how it’s about as contradictory as compassionate conservative. Of course, being an ex-Christian, I can see the problems with blind faith and the Judeo-Christian faith, but there are still people in the faith that believe in this bullshit. Pasted below is a quote from the author’s book, and it’s first chapter - and I will respond to three of the allegations that this man makes. Continue reading ‘Christless Christianity, what the hell?’
I Don’t Speak for All Atheists!
I would like to make a disclaimer here and that is, well, I don’t speak for all atheists and not all atheists agree with my hard line approach to religion. Atheism is simply the disbelief in a god or goddess and it’s not just your god or goddess, it’s all gods and goddesses. That’s pretty much it, and it allows for a wide variety of opinion among atheists, even some atheists who believe in UFO abduction or some that believe in Leprechauns (technically, since Leprechauns and UFOs are not gods you can still believe in them without compromising the default status as an atheist). The only thing that binds atheists is the disbelief in any god or goddess and this is generally the only thing commonly shared by atheists. We have differing political beliefs, some are Republican and some are even Communists (oh come now, is that such a bad thing compared to what America is NOW?). We have differing beliefs in the ideas of morals or how to live our lives, even atheists in the same profession have different methods of going about doing the same task. But we are all bound by the disbelief in a faery tale god who supposedly wants to save everyone from a horrible fate that could have been prevented by him and was actually put into play by him. We act responsibly in our religious beliefs, not allowing superstition into our day-to-day lives. Continue reading ‘I Don’t Speak for All Atheists!’
