I was reading the book, the Cult of Mac and I came across the chapter that talked about Apple’s Chief Evangelist and about the mailing list known as the Evangelist. The purpose of this list was to publicize articles which talked negatively about Apple’s products and to help get people who were dedicated to the gospel of Mac to get an author to rethink her/his statement. Well, I just thought “well, why would anyone bash Apple, they have some pretty good products”? Well, apparently, I have a couple of opinions about some Apple products where I think that Apple could have seriously done better. The first is about Apple’s web service MobileMe and when I posted about it, it happened to become instantly popular - having received about 500 hits since the day it was posted. This last weekend, my hits went from about 30-100 to numbers like 353 and 459 hits, pushing that post to be even more popular than the front page of my website. That post has the most comments of any posts, with most of them (very respectfully, I might add) disagreeing with me. And I have to wonder, is this the pull that Apple has over the world? Earlier, I posted on Gender Neutral Pronouns. But now, I am going to talk about something even more important - the use of a name which is not attached to masculinity or femininity. In society, names are especially important and they hold attachments to many of our memories. We remember our parents getting pissed and calling us by our first and middle names. My mother even told me that if she was going to name me and if I were born a genetic girl, she would have named me Lacie Starlene. Yeah, I didn’t get that either. But why should we give children names that try to lock them into one gender or another without their consent? What is the motivation behind this idea? I would like to bring up one of the most annoying things about American culture. When I was living in Texas, I often saw the rebel flag on a number of people’s cars, front lawns, et cetra. And when I was working at Jack in the Box, I saw two black people in a truck with a confederate flag sticker as big as their back window pasted on their back window. This is something that greatly irritates me as these people are FUCKING HYPOCRITES. I mean, who really wants to be enslaved by another person (and no, BDSM is much different)? In addition, I have seen a number of people in northern states (like Indiana) use these flags. Continue reading ‘A Rant: The Rebel Flag’
