Yes, in California, there has been a very large range of support for equal marriage and the most surprising of which came from a public utility company. Such support from such an unexpected source is always welcome and I should hope that this inspires other government agencies to take the right stand in the way for equal rights and equal marriage. The public utility in question is Pacific Gas and Electric and their support for equal marriage was announced by Darlene Chiu, their spokeswoman. And as it turns out, this kind of position is not at all odd for this public utility to make, as they have been fighting for equal rights and were one of the first companies to sponsor a LGBT association in the 80s. They have also fought actions to curtail affirmative action and crack down on illegal immigration. Now, is this a company that cares about it’s citizens or what? When I was browsing the hate mail section of NormalBobSmith.com, I found a letter that was sent to Bob from a girl who lives in a Kentucky. Unfortunate, I know, but that is not the bad part about this issue. The issue is that she was convicted of a charge that had to do with drugs and it turns out that she was given a sentence which would require her to be subjected to religious nonsense or have a warrant issued for her arrest. This was clearly made compulsory and this attitude of disrespect towards another persons’ choice not to become one of the sheep and fall in line at the church. This sentence was ironically issued by the Attorney General of the county, someone that should know all too well that actions like this are not only morally reprehensible but also a violation of this person’s civil rights and liberties. I am considering becoming a minister with the Unitarian Universalist church. And I plan to go to Naropa University to get the degree that would allow me to become a minister at a UU church (a Master’s of Divinity is required). Now, I am a relatively sane person and I espouse no belief in a god. Why would I want to join the Unitarian Universalist church, much less become a minister in the UU church? Well, I have a number of personal reasons but the main reason that attracted me is that they do not espouse any homophobia or transphobia. In fact a number of Unitarian Universalists are understanding, awesome people that I love to congregate with. Every UU congregation I have attended has had some of the warmest, funniest people that I have ever met. Continue reading ‘Becoming a UU minister’
