Yesterday, when I was looking up information on the new laws and the court decisions about our new equal marriage rights in Connecticut, I stumbled upon information about an anti-gay, anti-trans group called MassResistance. And much like any other hate-based group, they are completely and totally antagonistic to the idea that two people could genuinely love one another regardless of gender or sex. That physical sex does not determine gender also irks them and all the women that go through the gauntlet of transition are considered perverts by these people, regardless of how good of people these are and the fact that they are not the one focusing on other people’s genitals (I swear, sometimes I wonder where people get the idea that they can ask me probing, intimate questions about my genitals). And these people decided to get together after the Massachusetts court decision that legalized equal marriage. Despite the fact that they are quickly losing the battle against equal marriage, these people persist to try to disseminate lies about the gay and transsexual communities. I was talking with some people in my building and one of the people passing by said “Praise God” and I shouted back, as I normally do, “And Praise the Flying Spaghetti Monster!” She responded saying “You atheists and your flying spaghetti monsters!” I got a little irked and responded “Well, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is not real. It was a concoction to help show how teaching creationism in the classroom is foolish.” She responded back “Well, they teach atheism in the classroom!” This kind of puzzled me because I know of NO classroom in the United States or Canada that teaches atheism. We then went on to debate and she finally made the statement that “atheism is equivalent to racism”. That kinda took me aback and it made me think, how is atheism racist and why is it that some people choose to say things like that? Continue reading ‘“Atheism is racism” - WTF?’
Dear God,
We have seriously got to sit down and discuss a few things. Like how you conned every one of your believers into thinking that this world is both perfect and the reason for all the WONDERFUL things you’ve created such as HIV, Cancer and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is not your fault, despite the fact that you created everything, it is their fault due to their inherent brokenness because they are inherently sinful. Of course, that is a fault of the manufacturer and a blatant display of immaturity. Like a father who can’t put a jungle gym together properly and blames the kids when the damned thing breaks down. Of course, he could have seen what he did wrong, or the fact that the swings are NOT supposed to go under the slide and fixed that, but he thought it was good the way it was and continued blaming the kids, refusing medical care to them or respite from their pain despite the fact that it was his own doing. You seriously goofed the floof on this one, God. Continue reading ‘Dear God, We Seriously Need to Talk’
I heard today on a discussion board that I frequent that there was an event centered around the transphobic Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival called Camp Trans. For the uninitiated, the problem with the Michigan Womyn’s Festival is that it adopted a policy in the 70s that it currently holds to today known as ‘womyn-born-womyn only’. This policy is so hurtful to transwomen and should be challenged at every opportunity. Some detractors might say that the Michigan Womyn’s Festival has stopped being so transphobic or that we should butt out of what happened decades ago due to the fact that we are not ‘real womyn’, I would like to quote a press release that was sent from Lisa Vogel: Continue reading ‘Camp Trans And Why I Am Sad I Cannot Go’
Well, I had to go deposit my small (1 day of pay) cheque from Telefund into my Wells Fargo chequing account. And no, I could not deposit the cheque because of the type of account I have (Opportunity Chequing Account, because of the fact that I had my identity stolen in the past). And I decided that just for a lark, I would attempt to change my name with the Verified Petition for Name Change that I have. So, I walk into the downtown Wells Fargo branch and then decide to bring the people at the customer service counter my name change petition, in hopes that they would change it. One of them called me ’sir’ and while that did make me sigh, I did tell them that I did not want to be called that nor addressed by male pronouns. So, I waited at the Customer Service counter and they said that it could not be done. Very well, it was worth a try, eh? I was about to put the envelope in my backpack and head to the teller’s window to deposit my meager pay cheque when they proceeded to call me sir. And this is where it begins. Why Are Some People So Unkind to Transvestites?
Now, while I myself am not a transvestite (I say this from a solely technical definition, since just being full time isn’t doing it for me, although not being full time would be worse), I have to say that sometimes, some people’s attitudes and ideas about transvestites worries and concerns me. What brings this up? Well, I was reading Becky’s T-Blog (a weblog of a TV girl in the United Kingdom) and she had a very hurtful comment on one of her posts that was very transphobic. I know that there are a few transsexuals who thank their lucky stars that they are not transvestites. I would have to ask though, what gives transsexuals superiority over transvestites? Why can’t we all just respect one another as people who transgress the concept of gender? Are we afraid that if we are lumped in with the transvestites, will we lose respect in the hearts and minds of others? I want to address these concerns, as well as our reasons for having such concerns. Continue reading ‘Why Are Some People So Unkind to Transvestites?’
