Need a wedding officiant for your special day but don’t want someone that is tied into a religion? I can help! I am a wedding officiant, licensed as a member of the clergy in the state of Colorado. I am also ordained with the First Church of Atheism and I take my duties as an atheist minister quite seriously. And I am more than willing to officiate your wedding. I can also perform commitment ceremonies for people who wish to have one. My rates are quite reasonable and I am an expert at wedding planning. There are a few wedding requirements that I have to insist upon:
- I perform weddings for couples, thus I must insist that:
- I request that couples write their own vows. In fact, I’d actually recommend and prefer this as this allows the couples involved to tell each other how much they love one another. The beautiful thing about atheist weddings is the focus we put on the couple.
- I cannot perform a wedding or any type of ceremony which involves invoking the name of any god or gods. This goes against my moral principles and will any requests to do this will be rejected.
- The use of scriptures or holy books during the services is absolutely prohibited. Satire or criticism of said books during the service, however, is permitted. This will not however, be performed by me unless you request it.
- I cannot yet perform same-sex weddings. Trust me, I so want to be able to. However, I am more than willing to help you perform commitment ceremonies and I will help you celebrate your civil partnerships if you live in a state which grants these.
